Vocal Warmups – Day 15

Dr Faustus - 3DR Studio

Dr Faustus - 3

Six sick hicks nick six slick bricks with picks and sticks.

SIxty-six shy school masters sailing serenely a ship on a shining sea.

Dimpled Dinah danced in dainty dignity down the dunes.

FAUSTUS. How am I glutted with conceit of this!
Shall I make spirits fetch me what I please,
Resolve me of all ambiguities,
Perform what desperate enterprise I will?
I’ll have them fly to India for gold,
Ransack the ocean for orient pearl,
And search all corners of the new-found world
For pleasant fruits and princely delicates;
I’ll have them read me strange philosophy,
And tell the secrets of all foreign kings;
I’ll have them wall all Germany with brass,
And make swift Rhine circle fair Wertenberg;
I’ll have them fill the public schools with silk,
Wherewith the students shall be bravely clad;
I’ll levy soldiers with the coin they bring,
And chase the Prince of Parma from our land,
And reign sole king of all the provinces;
Yea, stranger engines for the brunt of war,
Than was the fiery keel at Antwerp-bridge,
I’ll make my servile spirits to invent.

Vocal Warmups – Day 14

Roberta ran rings around the Roman ruins.

I can’t stand rotten writin’ when it’s written rotten.

Cows graze in groves on grass which grows in grooves in groves.

The crow flew over the river with a lump of raw liver.

Girl gargoyle, guy gargoyle.

All these examples, which might be multiplied by millions, are cases in
which a long, laborious, conscious, detailed process of acquirement has
been condensed into an instinctive and unconscious inborn one. Factors
which formerly had to be considered one by one in succession are
integrated into what seems a single simple factor. Chains of hardly
soluble problems have coalesced in one problem which solves itself
the moment it is raised. What is more, they have been pushed back (or
forward, if you like) from post-natal to pre-natal ones. The child
in the womb may take some time over them; but it is a miraculously
shortened time.   —GB Shaw

Vocal Warmups – Day 13

You cuss, I cuss, we all cuss, for asparagus!

Give me the gift of a griptop sock: a drip-drape, ship-shape, tip-top sock.

Give Mr. Snipe’s wife’s knife a swipe.

I correctly recollect Rebecca MacGregor’s reckoning.

Multiplanar sagittal, axial and coronal images were obtained through the brain prior to and following contrast administration.  Inversion recovery images identify two focal areas of abnormal increased signal involving the left temporal lobe as well as the right occipital lobe.  This shows abnormal signal, particularly involving the gyri.  Following contrast administration, there is some evidence of enhancement to these areas without clear indication of any specific focal mass or mass effect.  I believe these findings represent ischemic foci.  Enhancement pattern is typical of what is known as luxury perfusion.  Again, no mass effect noted.  No clear indication to suggest any abnormal intracranial mass or abnormal vascularity such as an arteriovenous malformation.

Vocal Warmups – Day 12

Seth at Sainsbury’s sells thick socks.

Imagine, imagining imagining, an imaginary imaginary imaginary menagerie manager, imagining imagining imagining an imaginary imaginary imaginary managerie.

Bandy-legg’d Borachio Mustachio Whiskerifusticus,
the Bald and Brave Bombadino of Baghdad, helped
Abomoligue Bluebeard Bashaw of Babelmandel
to beat down the abominable bumblebee of Balsora.

THERE was no hope for him this time: it was the third stroke. Night
after night I had passed the house (it was vacation time) and studied
the lighted square of window: and night after night I had found it
lighted in the same way, faintly and evenly. If he was dead, I thought,
I would see the reflection of candles on the darkened blind for I knew
that two candles must be set at the head of a corpse. He had often said
to me: “I am not long for this world,” and I had thought his words idle.
Now I knew they were true. Every night as I gazed up at the window
I said softly to myself the word paralysis. It had always sounded
strangely in my ears, like the word gnomon in the Euclid and the word
simony in the Catechism. But now it sounded to me like the name of some
maleficent and sinful being. It filled me with fear, and yet I longed to
be nearer to it and to look upon its deadly work.

Vocal Warmups – Day 11

Can you can a can as a canner can can a can?

We had a knocker-up, and our knocker-up had a knocker-up,
and our knocker-up’s knocker-up didn’t knock
our knocker-up up, so our knocker-up didn’t knock us up.

The school coal in the school coal scuttle was scattered by a cool scholar.

Really rural.

Now, a sleeping car’s known as a sleeper,
And sleepers for sleepers they keep,
And sleepers run under the sleepers
In which those sleepy sleepers all sleep.
If a top was to sleep in a sleeper
And the sleeper beneath him went pop,
It’s logical cert that the top would get hurt,
For there’s no sleeper that sleeps like a top.

Although it is likely that many efforts have been made to domesticate
the other larger felines, no distinct success has attended these
experiments. A large Asiatic cat known as the chetah is somewhat used
in hunting for sport, but the species has never been adopted in any
definite way. In fact, with all the larger cats, including the lion,
which is structurally a little apart from the other members of
the group, the size and furious nature of the animal have made it
impossible to begin the process of selection which has been the means
whereby the wilderness motive has been replaced by that of the
household in the case of all other domesticated beasts.
